Where to Stay in Brasov
Your guide to the best areas and accommodation types
Brasov concentrates its best hotels in two zones. The medieval Old Town delivers smoke from chimney-cake stalls drifting past 14th-century walls. Poiana Brasov, a ski resort 12km up the mountain, smells of pine resin and wood smoke in winter. The Schei quarter just outside the old walls offers quieter guesthouses. Bartolomeu near the train station handles transit stays.
Mid-range doubles in the Old Town run around 300 RON in shoulder season. Poiana Brasov commands a sharp premium from December to February. Hostels start around 100 RON. The ARO Palace marks the top of Brasov's accommodation tier.

The medieval Saxon core of Brasov sits enclosed by 14th-century walls. The Black Church anchors the district with soot-darkened stone towering over cobblestone lanes. Warm chimney-cake scent fills cold evenings. Nearly every notable sight lies within a 10-minute walk. Pedestrian streets stay animated until late into the night.
- ✓ Walking distance to the Black Church, Council Square, Rope Street, and the city walls.
- ✓ Highest density of restaurants and cafes in all of Brasov
- ✓ Car-free pedestrian lanes in the evening feel relaxed and safe
- ✓ Atmospheric medieval streetscape built from stone that glows amber at dusk
- ✗ Weekend bar noise on Strada Republicii carries past midnight
- ✗ No on-street parking. Cars must be left at a metered lot at the edge of the historic center.

The oldest Romanian neighborhood in Brasov. Enter through the 15th-century Schei Gate at the foot of Tampa Mountain. Away from the Saxon Old Town crowds, lanes narrow and woodsmoke drifts from garden kitchens. St. Nicholas Church and the First Romanian School Museum anchor the quarter's identity.
- ✓ Noticeably quieter than the Old Town at every hour
- ✓ Direct trailhead access to Tampa Mountain hiking routes
- ✓ Authentic daily-life character with local bakeries and corner shops
- ✓ Room rates typically 20 to 30 percent below comparable Old Town properties
- ✗ 10-minute walk through the Schei Gate to the Black Church and Old Town restaurant strip.
- ✗ Fewer dining options within the quarter itself after 21:00

A self-contained mountain resort on the slopes of Postavarul. It sits 1000m above sea level and 12km from the city by cable car or road. In winter the air smells of pine resin and slopes glow under artificial lights well after dark. Summer opens meadows to hiking trails that are nearly empty. A regular shuttle bus connects to Brasov city center.
- ✓ Slope-to-door access in ski season without commuting from the city each morning
- ✓ cool temperatures in July and August when the Brasov valley is hot
- ✓ Car-free resort village atmosphere with everything within a short walk
- ✓ Cable car connection provides a scenic ride rather than a traffic-choked drive
- ✗ Prices spike sharply December to February and rooms fill months in advance
- ✗ Dining and nightlife are thin compared to Brasov city. The resort quiets early outside ski season.

A residential district south of the Old Town. Apartment hotels and family-run guesthouses offer more space and lower prices than the medieval center. The Saturday farmers market fills the square with the smell of fresh dill, smoked sheep cheese, and horinca plum brandy. Well-suited to families or visitors planning longer stays.
- ✓ Apartment-style accommodation with full kitchens, washing machines, and separate living areas.
- ✓ Local supermarkets and the Saturday farmers market within easy walking distance
- ✓ Quiet evenings well clear of Old Town bar noise
- ✓ Strong value for stays of four nights or longer
- ✗ 25-minute walk or two bus stops from the Black Church and the Old Town restaurant strip.

Booking Tips
Insider advice to help you find the best accommodation.
January and February are the tightest ski weeks. Popular Poiana Brasov hotels begin filling in October. The Christmas and New Year window is the most constrained of all. Several properties require a minimum four-night stay and apply peak rates regardless of midweek arrival day.
Council Square-facing rooms and boutique hotels inside the Brasov walls sell out well before July and August. The Schei quarter and Astra apartments nearly always have availability closer to arrival. They typically cost 20 to 30 percent less for equivalent standards.
Brasov's family pensiuni routinely offer free station pickup, late check-out, or breakfast upgrades when you book directly by email rather than through a platform. The savings are tangible. The welcome is noticeably warmer than a platform booking generates.
Bran Castle is 30km away. Most visitors cover it comfortably in a half day from Brasov. Staying in the city gives access to far more dining and evening options. You also get the Old Town and Black Church, plus Peles Castle in Sinaia as a second full day trip in the opposite direction.
When to Book
Timing matters for both price and availability.
Reserve Poiana Brasov for December to February by October. Reserve Old Town boutique hotels for July and August 6 to 8 weeks ahead of arrival. Mark your calendar.
April, May, September, and October offer mild temperatures and fully open trails. Prices drop 20 to 30 percent below peak. Two weeks' notice is typically sufficient for most Brasov properties.
March and November are the quietest months in Brasov. Walk-ins work at most properties. Guesthouses often negotiate. Poiana Brasov partially closes for inter-season maintenance and many resort restaurants shut entirely.
Two weeks covers most Brasov stays outside the peak windows. Six to eight weeks is the reliable minimum for Council Square boutiques and Poiana Brasov ski lodges in January and February. Plan accordingly.
